The second in a two-volume set, this volume presents horror fans with a treasure trove of context, facts and trivia from every Hollywood horror movie produced during the “second wave” of screen scares (1940–1946). A total of 113 films are analyzed, with each entry consisting of a detailed production history (derived from trade-publication reports), contemporary press hype, cast, scenario, critiques, and behind-the-scenes production tidbits. Several entries also include a postscript detailing noteworthy events that followed the picture’s theatrical run, such as sequels or award nominations. An additional appendix presents the first accurate, detailed history of the infamous “lost” chiller from New York, Dr. Terror’s House of Horrors (1945). Profusely illustrated and painstakingly documented, this complete history of the second decade of Hollywood horror is essential reading for horror fans and cinema historians alike.
