Book Presentation:
German Cinema is the first English-language volume to provide a comprehensive historical overview of German film from the silent era to the present, as well as close readings of individual films.

In the history of German cinema, film directors have developed unique visual and narrative responses to the anxieties and excesses of their own times and those of Germany’s past. German Cinema is the first English-language volume to provide a comprehensive historical overview of German film from the silent era to the present, as well as close readings of individual films.

About the Author:
Marc Silberman is the author of Heiner Muller: Forschungsberichte zur DDR—Literatur (Rodopi, 1980) and Literature of the Working World: A Study of the Industrial Novel in East Germany (H. Lang, 1976). A professor of German at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he earned his Ph.D. from Indiana University.

Press Reviews:
Finally, a comprehensive study of the German cinema that offers insightful close readings and contextual analyses to specialists in film and German studies, as well as to a more general readership.
